  9.   The diskette for FontFolder Version 2.1 should contain the

  36.   On-line users should look for the following files. FNTF21.ZIP 
  37.   is required while FNTFLIB.ZIP is optional.

  72. This README file gives basic information for installing and 
  73. starting FontFolder for the first time.  For more detailed 
  74. instructions on using FontFolder, consult the on-line Help.
  75.

  77. NEW FONTFOLDER USERS
  78.  
  79. FontFolder does not at this time have an installation program.  To
  80. install FontFolder create a directory for FontFolder and copy the
  81. following files to this directory:
  82.  
  83.   FONTFOLD.EXE
  84.   FFCLEAN.EXE (new with Version 2.1)
  85.   FFPRNMOD.EXE
  86.   CATALOG.TXT 
  87.   CHARBOX.TXT 
  88.   LINE.TXT    
  89.   PGRAPH.TXT

  91. In addition copy FONTFOLD.HLP either to this same directory or to any 
  92. directory listed in the SET HELP= entry in CONFIG.SYS.
  93.  
  94. To create a Program Object for FontFolder on your desktop, open the
  95. Templates folder and drag a Program Object from the Program Template
  96. to your desktop.  Give the Program Object the name you want to appear
  97. under the FontFolder icon, and when the Settings Notebook appears,
  98. fill in the Path and Filename field with the fully qualified path to
  99. the FONTFOLD.EXE file based on the directory where you have placed
  100. this file, e.g.  C:\FONTFOLD\FONTFOLD.EXE.  Close the Settings
  101. Notebook.
  102.  
  103. When you start FontFolder the first time it will ask you to make
  104. some choices of directory locations for its files, and ask you to
  105. confirm the drive letters it has determined for your removable
  106. drives and for your CDROM drives if you have any.  This information
  107. will be saved so you will not have to repeat this in the future
  108. when you start FontFolder.
  109.  
  110. After starting FontFolder for the first time, bring up the Help and
  111. read the sections on FontFolder Overview, Installing FontFolder and
  112. Using FontFolder for basic familiarization with the program.  Help
  113. is also available for all menu items; hit F1 when the menu item is
  114. selected.

  117. USERS UPGRADING FROM AN EARLIER VERSION OF FONTFOLDER
  118.

  120. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS WHEN UPGRADING FROM AN
  121. EARLIER VERSION OF FONTFOLDER, BE SURE AND READ AND CARRY OUT ALL
  122. THE STEPS BEFORE STARTING FONTFOLDER 2.1 FOR THE FIRST TIME.

  125. 1) Create a directory for FontFolder 2.1 and copy the following
  126.    files to this directory:
  127.  
  128.      FONTFOLD.EXE
  129.      FONTFOLD.HLP
  130.      FFCLEAN.EXE (new with Version 2.1)
  131.      FFPRNMOD.EXE
  132.      CATALOG.TXT 
  133.      CHARBOX.TXT 
  134.      LINE.TXT    
  135.      PGRAPH.TXT

  137.    Alternatively, you can copy these files in to your existing
  138.    FontFolder directory. If you do, be sure to back up the 
  139.    FONTFOLD.EXE and FONTFOLD.HLP files first so you can restore them
  140.    in needed. Also, if you have customized any of the .TXT files, 
  141.    don't copy these new ones over them.

  143. 2) If you are setting up FontFolder 2.1 in a different directory 
  144.    than you used for your earlier version, make a backup of the
  145.    FONTFOLD.INI, and all MLIBnnn.FF2 and FNTPKnnn.FP2 files associated
  146.    with your 1.2 version of FontFolder.  The locations of these files
  147.    is set by the Path entries you have made in your FontFolder
  148.    Settings.  Make sure to get the files corresponding to these path
  149.    settings so that you have the current versions of these files.
  150.    Once you have made backups of these files, copy the MLIBnnn.FF2 and
  151.    FNTPKnnn.FP2 files to your 2.1 directory.

  153.    While it is possible to copy your existing FONTFOLD.INI file to 
  154.    your 2.1 directory and modify it appropriately, it is easy to make 
  155.    a mistake here, so I do not recommend it.  If you do not copy
  156.    FONTFOLD.INI, you will lose any customization such as window size
  157.    and placement, but you will not lose the ability to use your
  158.    libraries and fontpacks.

  160. 3) If you decide to copy FONTFOLD.INI to your 2.1 directory, make
  161.    sure that the FIRST thing you do upon starting FontFolder 2.1 is to
  162.    go to the Settings and modify the Path to the FontFolder INI file
  163.    and the Path to FontFolder Data Files to point to your 2.1
  164.    directory instead of your 2.0 directory.  You MUST do this before
  165.    you save any library or close FontFolder to keep from having your
  166.    2.0 INI and data files overwritten with 2.1 versions.  As noted
  167.    below, you should leave the path to your FFCACHE file set to point
  168.    to the same location as in FontFolder 2.0.

  170. 4) If you are using CDROM fonts or fonts on a network, start version
  171.    2.0 of FontFolder, open the Settings to the Paths page, and make a
  172.    note of what is entered in the Path to Font Cache field.  It will
  173.    most likely point to a FFCACHE subdirectory of your FontFolder 2.0
  174.    directory.  When you first start version 2.1, set your Path to Font
  175.    Cache in version 2.1 to point to this 2.0 location so that both
  176.    versions of FontFolder use the same Font Cache location when they
  177.    install and remove CDROM or network fonts in OS/2. Once you are 
  178.    satisfied with the operation of FontFolder 2.1 and want to remove 
  179.    FontFolder 2.0 from your system, follow the instructions in the 
  180.    NOTE immediately below to move your Font Cache location befo
